The Resident Service Division mission is to support the strength and diversity of
the Decatur community by offering a wide range of programs and services. The Resident
Services team works to find creative solutions to make assistance available in areas
such as: education, emergency assistance, credit and finances, computers, homeownership,
employment opportunities, job training or improving the quality of life for the youth,
adults, near elderly, senior citizens, and the disabled in our communities. The
Resident Services team is a hub for information; opportunities and services that
help residents overcome obstacles and reach their goals.
The youth programs are extended arms of the STAR (after-school) program. We offer
a variety of programs for the youth such as: An annual “Excellent Award” program,
girl scouts, boy scouts, circus camp, employment for teens, teens in action, HEAT,
gavel club, capoeira, teens town hall meetings, summer camp, field trips, sporting
activities, song writing, Say No to Drugs Egg Hunt, Lights on After-school program,
and scholarships for graduating high school seniors, and continuing college students.
Also a group from Agnes Scott College called S.P.A.R.K volunteer, and mentor students
in the STAR program.
Our adult residents has the opportunity to participate in the following programs,
homebuyer seminars, computer classes, on-line job search, resume writing, nutrition
programs, financial workshops, SAMS (Single Adult Mom’s), DPI (Decatur Parenting
Initiative), food demo’s, ESOL (English as a Second Language) class, citizenship
classes, field trips, arts, and crafts, volunteering to help implement programs,
clothing and food pantry, resident association meetings, and adult college scholarship.
The following programs are offered to the near elderly, senior citizens, and disabled,
financial workshops, gardening, track walking, aerobics, jewelry making, sculpting/ceramics,
candle making, t-shirt making, grocery shopping, leather crafts, loom knitting,
painting, urban dance, health awareness workshops, yard sales, Valentine, Mother’s
Day, Thanksgiving luncheons, Christmas party, computer classes, health fair, food
demo’s, field trips, resident association meetings, and AARP training, NNO (National
Night Out) is a community event.
Resident Services has established collaborative partnerships with non-profit agencies,
and organizations to develop community based approaches in implementing quality programs
for our residents. Our partners plays a great role in the success of DHA offering
a wide range of programs and services: City of Decatur Schools, Decatur Education
Foundation, Decatur Active Living, Children and Youth Services, Decatur Library,
Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, University of Georgia Dekalb Extension,
The Wylde Center, Literacy Action, Capoeira, For the Kids in all of Us, New Life
ministries, and DEAM.
